Avtandil Tskvitinidze of Avtandil is a veteran designer in Georgia. He’s recently had some press thanks to the singer Mary J. Blige, who wore an Avtandil distressed denim jacket during a television interview. The celebrity credit shouldn’t be a surprise: There’s always a glint of star power to the designer’s work, even if it is often hidden beneath a hefty mix of various materials and outré silhouettes.
This season, Tskvitinidze didn’t veer from the more-is-more route. He gave his signature va-va-voom look an assassin edge, citing the film Atomic Blonde with Charlize Theron. The collection’s clean shapes and palettes worked best, such as the Pepto-pink suit jacket with a utility strap. The vests and tops illustrated with graffiti art were a bit overwhelming, especially side by side with the sequin pieces. The coolest look combined extreme-shredded denim pants over a pair of plaid trousers. Maybe it’s Ms. Blige’s next flashy ensemble.
