Designer Ashlynn Park continued her exploration of craftsmanship and tailoring for her brand’s first resort collection, creating a cohesive collection that balanced both feminine and masculine design elements.
“Time-wise, I had a little bit more time between spring and fall,” Park explained. “This is the perfect time that I can review my previous collections and try to get out more essential pieces that I can show to market. I kind of pushed myself to make some core pieces and essential pieces of Ashlyn, so we started at the point.”
Park’s essential pieces were inspired by styles that she’s created in past collections, such as her Emerson pants updated with patch pockets and her British court-inspired “Prince Jacket” updated with more tailoring.
Like her previous collections, Park focused on pleated styles for resort, many of which the designer named as her key pieces. One such piece is a tailored dress with an asymmetrical white poplin pleating design that gives a nod to the saddle skirt Park included in her fall collection.
Park used the poplin pleating to add a creative spin to her essential pieces, like a black tank top or wool blazer, which gave the otherwise minimal pieces an eye-catching element. The designer explained her resort collection is also a preview at what can be expected from her upcoming spring collection.
The collection’s neutral color palette was given a jolt of color through core styles created in a bright red hue, giving the collection a holiday feel.
Park’s first resort collection was another showcase of the designer’s knack for giving structured, tailored pieces a lightweight and feminine quality and is an exciting preview of how the designer can continue to grow her label.
