Edward Crutchley continued to dial up the commercial viability of his namesake label for the resort 2024 season.
Crutchley is a master of rich and colorful prints, with a decade-long track record of putting out trend-setting styles on the runway of Louis Vuitton Men and Dior Men together with Kim Jones.
For his own label, the designer went the other way by reinterpreting medieval prints, such as quartering, harlequin patterns, and stripes, on retro sportswear stables and sleek tailoring through a black-and-white lens.
Key pieces included oversize knits emblazoned with geometric diamonds and ornamental leaves, ruffle dresses layered with various prints, and two-toned tailoring and sporty pieces.
“The importance of these prints, and representations of people in medieval clothing and textiles cannot be overstated,” the designer said with regard to his inspiration.
“They served as visual languages through which individuals conveyed their social status, identity and affiliation. I find these elements and themes still resonate today. What I wanted as a continuation from last season is to build a coherent story that continues upon that narrative of looking to the past and how that continues to inspire and influence the present,” he added.
The results were certain to be less challenging in the eyes of buyers, yet stayed true to the brand’s ethos — “strong, graphic and directional” — according to Crutchley.
