Designer Anna Karenina, who launched her career at 16, has grown up design-wise. In the past, her pieces have been rather young. Now 21, her Spring collection is mostly focused on eveningwear with a more adult touch. The dresses were indeed pretty. A body-hugging white number with flared pink sleeves and mesh ruffle that cut across the thigh was a standout, as was a red dress with tiered, layered ruffles at the waist. Amidst pieces like that, a mesh bodysuit with a waistband emblazoned with Front Row Only appeared try-hard, and an oversize denim jacket could have done without the superfluous embellishments on the arms.
Karenina has future plans beyond designing. She is looking to disrupt the industry and introduce fashion coins, a concept similar to Bitcoin, that will allow consumers to purchase her looks using the currency. A novel concept, to be sure. She’s someone to keep an eye on.
