Designer Olga Alonova started the label Alonova first as a fur outerwear brand in 2003, but later expanded it into ready to wear in 2009. Her start in outwear may explain why the coats and jackets were particularly strong. Standouts included a chocolate vinyl coat with a leopard-fur-print collar and matching trousers, as well as a black version of the set.
The clothing had a particular nouveau riche Ukrainian style and was geared toward glamour-minded clients. Still, this flashy aesthetic has been a tongue-in-cheek hit for labels like Vetements, and pieces from the Alonova label could very well appeal to Kiev’s cool young crowd, even if they weren’t intended to.
