Galvan could not host a presentation this season due to the coronavirus pandemic. In these extenuating circumstances, Vogue Runway has made an exception to its policy and is writing about this collection via photos and remote interviews.
Galvan’s design director Anna-Christin Haas and creative director Sola Harrison are streamlining their business in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Call it Marie Kondo-ing, if you will; their new bridal collection is cleaner, with fewer embellishments than usual. Haas and Harrison are also emphasizing versatility with dresses that are designed to be multi-occasion, hence the new “White Collection” moniker instead of the more traditional “bridal” one. It’s a smart approach, especially considering the fact that Galvan’s bread and butter is sharp, minimalist occasion wear. This season’s architectural silhouettes were subtly embellished with soft, pleated velvet detailing and subtle crystal embroidery.
Working remotely, Haas and Harrison heard from brides via Instagram; some were excited to wed quietly at home while self-isolating and needed understated options, while others were planning their nuptials for a year or two from now but were still after simplicity. They also launched an online initiative in which followers submitted personal stories about their canceled or postponed weddings. In turn, three customers were gifted a bridal piece as well as a virtual styling appointment with the celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger. In times of crisis, ingenuity of this sort pays off.
