Pure, effortless romance was in the air at Alice Temperley’s Spring 2020 bridal presentation this afternoon. With her wedding gowns as with her ready-to-wear, Temperley is a designer who knows how to tell a love story in a way that isn’t overly nostalgic or ultra-feminine. She works a more ethereal, bohemian angle, with a dash of sexiness.
This season, Temperley expanded on her last bridal outing, presenting dresses that spoke to three different types of brides. The first was a long-sleeved, open-back buttercream sequined gown designed for the woman who wants to make a statement. Just as bold was a body-hugging gown with a scalloped trim of mother-of-pearl beads and crystal stone embroideries that took their inspiration from porcelain fans, chinoiserie screens, and Victorian corsetry. Next, there were boho-inclined dresses with soft silk godets, flutter sleeves, and 3-D flower embellishments. Temperley also had a few ideas for the classic bride, including a lovely gown with a dramatic ball skirt and subtle forget-me-not-patterned jacquard. This collection was impressive for its variety, despite the fact that there were just 10 dresses.
