Reem Acra showed her new Fall 2020 bridal collection during her market appointments for buyers. The seats were filled with a far-flung crew: A buyer from Singapore, a duo from South Korea, a group from a downtown New York store, and two women from the Westchester area. When designing her bridal collections, Acra has to consider her international clients and think about how her dresses fit into different cultures. (Some brides love glitz, like her clients in the Middle East; others want more modest cuts, like those in Japan.) Considering all of these details and the needs of women everywhere, Acra offers a wide range of options.
Of course, you can always expect a few va-va-voom pieces. Acra noted she pays attention to trends within the industry, and right now, it’s all about a “low front and low back.” A great example of this was a sleeveless dress embroidered with 3-D organza petals. While there were plenty of classic looks, which will appeal to her more reserved clients, Acra also knows how to have fun and design for the downtown bride. One standout was a jumpsuit with a top that was fully constructed of lace.
The variety of choice applied beyond Acra’s silhouettes. A few dresses came with detachable pieces, like a classic white gown with a grand train that was cleverly attached to the waist as a belt: Wear it down the aisle; take it off for dancing. That’s a detail that will appeal to almost every modern bride.
