This season, Reem Acra took her Fall ’18 bridal show to the New York Public Library. The high, engraved wood ceilings lent a heavenly, almost higher-power feeling. It was a fitting choice: Many weddings have been held there in the past, so Acra’s setting wasn’t far off from an actual altar. As for the dresses? They had an unfussy, elegant feel, or as Acra put it, “pure.” There were plenty of classics, such as the opening look: an optic white, long-sleeved ball gown with a peplum at the lower back. Other highlights included a backless dress that clung to the body and a décolletage-diving organza gown with a frothy, feathered skirt.
Acra’s signature embroideries were present here, too. On one strappy dress, the intricate thread work crept from the top of the skirt up to the bust; on another, it added interest to three-quarter-length sleeves. One not-so-obvious, had-to-be-there-to-see-it detail? The pearls dotting the spines of several gowns.
