Reem Acra continued her Spring ready-to-wear notion of a secret garden for her bridal collection, a concept well-suited to creating ethereal-looking pieces. Acra’s signature lace and embroidery came through in less orthodox ways, as the slit of a curve-skimming gown or as oval cut-outs stretching down the thighs.
Acra also made it a point to shift her focus more toward ball gowns this season. “We’ve seen the mermaid [silhouette]; we’ve seen the sexy [look],” said Acra after the show. “This collection was about ball gowns.” That classic fairy-tale shape was reworked with peplums, or was semi-sheer, while another had an encrusted bodice. One standout ball gown forwent the idea of standard matrimonial white: The skirt was lightly tinted in violet for a subtle, double-take effect.
