“Romance! Couture! [Cristóbal] Balenciaga!” enthused Angel Sanchez backstage after sending a dozen bridal valentines down the runway. With this collection he proved that love is no illusion—though the designer used lots of it to add flirty touches to somewhat untraditional bridal gowns. Some featured a semi-exposed slice of belly, others sheer bodices and backs on which flowers seemed to float. (Instagram can keep its mask-out bars.) To his all-white palette Sanchez added touches of rosé. A flower-fronted strapless column with a scalloped bodice, for example, had hand-cut pink petals at the center back—nice to look at during the ceremony—and among the generous pleats of a showy and voluminous Infanta gown (à la Cristóbal), Sanchez unforgettably strung pink, feminine bows.
