The Double Rainbouu dudes are growing their business wisely. After debuting two years ago with a small selection of Hawaiian-inspired shirts, Mikey Nolan and Toby Jones have grown their brand to include swimwear, denim, shoe and sunglasses collaborations, and ready-to-wear, all included at their Resort 2019 show in Sydney.
Against the divey backdrop of the Lansdowne Hotel, a sacred spot where Nirvana once performed, Nolan and Jones leaned in hard to a grungy surfer spirit, accessorizing their collection with fishing accessories and large net bags. Models wore hallucinogenic pastel prints and bold geometric graphic shirts, anchored with sandals or the brand’s new Globe sneaker collaboration. Athleisure, here as a printed sweatshirt and pants, had a tongue-in-cheek spirit, with phrases like “Double Rainbouu Leisure Industry” and “Pool Side Wifi” printed on the front and back. Layered together, it’s an eclectic vision, for sure, all high socks and contrast sleeve sweaters, but it’s easy to see these pieces infiltrating the closets of both beach bums and city slickers worldwide.
