Australia Fashion Week designers have a penchant for creating collections too dressed up for their own good. Double Rainbouu’s Mikey Nolan and Toby Jones (formerly creative directors of Ksubi) are here to remedy that with their grungy, slouchy, surfer-tinged lineup. With music blaring, street-cast models ganged up in the center of the runway wearing the brand’s signature Hawaiian shirts and newly launched printed tees and slogan knits. More than other labels in Australia, Double Rainbouu feels connected to the international fashion conversation thanks to its unisex offerings, witty interpretations of corporate logos (DR’s was a take on the British tabloid The Sun), and gawky layering and psychedelic prints. Sporting the brand’s berets and lanyards made of hiking cord and dangling keys will make you the cool kid you want to be.
