Reem Acra has been in business since the ’90s, but she still keeps current. This season she looked to a muse who’s back in the news—Barbie, the subject of Greta Gerwig’s newest film—and created a resort collection using only various hues of pink. “We wanted to make a collection aligned with what is happening in the world. It’s a bridge between the modern and the classic,” said Acra.
Acra’s current customer base includes an impressive list of VIPs, including first ladies and royals. But in 2023, she’s also trying to showcase a world of eveningwear to a younger audience. She’s been creating capsule collections at a lower price point in “sexier styles,” including two-pieces, and is also beginning to incorporate youthful looks into her main collections along with her bestsellers. While loyal Acra fans might choose a gown in her traditional cotton piqué fabric for drama and shape, those new to the brand could lean towards the sheer tulle looks with low back detailing. Regardless, because of Acra the world of eveningwear is getting more accessible for the next generation and even easier to buy starting today, as she’ll be launching an e-commerce site for the first time in the brand’s history.
