Picking up on The Royal Tenenbaums theme from their fall 2023 collection, Baum und Pferdgarten creative directors Helle Hestehave and Rikke Baumgarten found more inspiration in Margot Tenenbaum for resort. “There’s so much more to her than we showed in the fall collection,” Baumgarten said during a preview.
While their runway offering reimagined Margot as a maximalist street-styler (see the vinyl snakeskin-print coat and hot-pink puffer jacket), the designers took a more subtle approach here, delving deeper into the character’s classic style signatures. Her famous mink coat has been reinterpreted via vegan leather outerwear with faux shearling collars, while her Lacoste polo dress was a reference for the striped cardigan paired with pleather patchwork trousers. The slip dress from the bathroom scene (also referenced visually in the lookbook) features again in the form of a pink lace-trimmed number.
The most successful looks were a sheer gauze top and floral-printed trousers, and a boxy striped shirt paired with a patterned green skirt. The minimalist gray waistcoat and trousers were incongruous with the rest of the collection, but you can expect to see them day-to-day on the streets of Copenhagen.
