Reem Acra threw a garden party for resort. Models sprawled in Acra’s picturesque New Jersey backyard, wearing a collection in which the designer said, “there was something for everyone,” from more modest cocktail dresses to her signature red carpet looks.
Starting with the Hollywood fare, which is Acra’s bread-and-butter, her megawatt, heavily detailed gowns boasted saucy sheer effects this season. One was fully embroidered with gems and beads in an Art Deco pattern, which artfully covered the chest and torso and left the rest of the body sheer. Those looking for a more cocktail hour get-up are in luck, too: A simple floral print dress had the Acra touch thanks to beaded capped sleeves.
On the more modest side were Acra’s caftans. One came in optic white and featured a beaded bib with an Egyptian Revival feel. The designer said that she’s taking one along with her when she travels back to her home country of Lebanon.
While Acra has a solid customer base among go-glam-or-go-home types and others who prefer failsafe elegance like First Lady Jill Biden, it’s always fun to see a designer in experiment mode. A fantastic example of Acra branching out came in the form of a powder pink dress that was cut-out in four places, revealing the midriff and flashes of skin below the hips for both a refreshing and daring effect.
