Like so many in the fashion industry, the Galvan ladies are rethinking their strategies. For an occasionwear and red carpet brand like theirs, the future is very much uncertain in terms of direction. When will we see the return of decked-out celebrities parading across awards show red carpets? When is the next time we’ll shop for a destination wedding (or any wedding with more than 10 people)? Future uncertainties notwithstanding, the Galvan team reports that customers are still buying gowns and black tie separates, perhaps in the hope of a return to party life. That said, they do see less of a market for slinky slip gowns and embellished showstopper looks going forward, so they are pivoting to a more streamlined and easy sensibility, and focusing on comfortable silhouettes.
Consider their new resort collection. Bohemian maxi dresses in vibrant shades like a pretty granny apple green will work just as well for lounging around as, say, at a socially distanced outdoor party. Ditto the silk button-down blouses worn with matching wide-leg trousers and breezy wrap and halter neck dresses that evoke a trip to the Amalfi Coast or Capri. Indeed, people are starting to book trips again, and when they do jet off somewhere post-quarantine, many will want a wardrobe like this one.
