Adam Selman’s been going to CrossFit. It’s an important detail about his Spring collection—not because it’s led him to any fitness-based revelations, or at least not yet, but because it was there he first encountered a stranger wearing his Adam Selman Sport collection. After finishing up a run on the treadmill, Selman went up to her. “She had no idea who I was,” he said, “but I explained I made her outfit.” The pair ended up getting a coffee after, where he picked her brain about what she liked about his ultra-vamp workoutwear. One of the key elements, the designer relayed, was the cut. His French-cut leggings with built in panties are singular in the market, and in tangerine colors and semi-sheer leopard spots, they’re pretty hard to miss at CrossFit, PureBarre, or SoulCycle. They’re also pretty hard to acquire, constantly selling out at the e-tailers that carry them.
Because of this, Selman has focused on building up his core collection of bras, leggings, and tops. For Spring, he’s reimagined his perfect black leggings and bra with crystal trim—made from recycled Spandex—added new pops of colors and prints, and even developed a pair of leggings with a lace up detail across one’s A.S.S. cheeks. (Those are for the brave.) Focusing on staples that sell has also had the side effect of reinvigorating Selman’s creativity. So in addition to gym wear essentials, he has developed a new range of sweats with wide, boxing-inspired waistbands, lace-up cropped jackets, and punchy unitards that look like a cross between old timey wrestling uniforms and something Bella Hadid might wear on weekends. The pièce de resistance in Selman’s expanded range has to be a black jersey crop top and slit skirt, held together with gold O-rings, a set so sultry it could make Halston blush. The next time Adam Selman sees someone wearing his A.S.S. collection, it’s going to be in the club. Partying can be a workout too!
