Not everyone wants to wear fashion with a capital F. Clothes can be fun, self-expressive, over the top even. But what about investing in the classics? What about buying and wearing pieces that are timeless and not too trendy? Yigal Azrouël is a designer who caters to those things. His clothes feel of the moment but not tied to a specific era. They are modern without feeling overly conceptual.
For pre-fall, Azrouël built on his roster of enduring fashion staples, expanding into more prints with pops of bright sapphire blue vine motifs and a dizzying black-and-white floral pattern. A mixed snakeskin–and–gold-chain print felt slightly out of his wheelhouse, but the dress it decorated was pretty: a deep V-neck, long-sleeve frock with an asymmetrical hemline. You can count on Azrouël for precise silhouettes that fit and hug the body. The high-waist, oversize creamy corduroy trousers were a good example of this attention to shape, as was a banded, off-the-shoulder knit frock. The outerwear was versatile, especially the classic leather moto jackets. In all, the designer provided a lineup of ready-to-wear that was all him, no bells and whistles or time stamps required.
