Evolution can be a tricky thing for a brand like Galvan. When you launch a collection based on a niche idea—in this case it was sexy, minimal, modern eveningwear—it can be difficult to expand upon that singular point-of-view and business model. But Galvan’s design director Anna-Christin Haas and creative director Sola Harrison have progressed. Smartly, they began by adding a bridal line, followed by more separates in the main line and later, bags. Now, they’re introducing a travel-friendly collection called “Galvan Escape” inspired by their jaunts to fabulous destinations like Positano and Mykonos. Instead of built-in corsets, sequins, and silk, the Escape line offers breezy dresses, tops, and pants in linen and cottons, all designed with the same vision as their main line.
The new capsule will launch alongside pre-fall, which was shown at their studio and store space today in New York. In pre-fall, too, expansion and evolution is noticeable, mainly in the sheer number of tops, blazers, trousers, and dress silhouettes. Haas and Harrison were inspired by the Dutch artist Viviane Sassen and her surrealist photography work in Kenya. Their designs incorporated beautiful multi-colored beadwork on the back of a black jumpsuit, as well as playful animal prints on tops and dresses. The utilitarian safari suiting looked good. While the striped sequins and other embellished pieces stood out, the most interesting thing about this latest Galvan outing was its variety. Haas and Harrison are growing in the right ways.
