Today is “Philosophy day” in Milan. After Lorenzo Serafini’s show, he was shuttling back to the center to host a pop-up shop, and later, there’s a dinner and an after-party in his honor, where Amanda Lear is performing. At his graduation presentation, he played Lear’s music. The full circle moment made him proud, he noted backstage. Serafini has reason to be. Three and a half years into the job, he said he’s enjoying, “step by step,” steady growth. “Once you go fast as light, you can burn. I much prefer to grow slower.”
Still, this show was hot (a quality that Milan this week has been lacking, unless we’re talking about the humidity). Serafini’s Philosophy has become a popular Milanese resource for a frilly frock in a bohemian vein, but here he swapped his typical romance for a more overt kind of sensuality. Bella Hadid set the stage in a little black romper with big puffed sleeves, a deep-V neckline, and a smocked waist. From there, he sampled ruffly dresses in a scarf print sourced from North Africa; sheer, breezy caftans; lacy blouses worn with sarouel-shape pants; French terry swimsuits and tracksuits; and really want-able white jeans embellished with silver paillettes and beads. Serafini called it “a little bit of a trip,” nodding to the subtle North African references. This was a pretty collection, but also pretty effortless, which is a nice combination. In short: next year’s sexy, summery partywear all sorted.
