Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people need happy workout clothes, right? Enter Adam Selman Sport, the new activewear collection from the designer. Shorthanded, with a wink, to A.S.S., the range of leopard-print and crystal-studded workoutwear brings Selman’s campy-cool aesthetic to the gym, offering a sexy alternative in the already crowded athleticwear-meets-athleisure market. Instead of basic black leggings, Selman offers semi-sheer ones with cheetah spots. Gym shorts are made with silver sneaker charms on drawstrings; sweatbands are coated in Swarovski crystals; there’s even a bandeau top and wrap skirt for those among us who see working out as a state of mind.
Aesthetically, the collection is a continuation of Selman’s former ready-to-wear brand, but these cute, catty ensembles aren’t just flash. Pieces are made from recycled nylon and polyester and will be shipped in biodegradable and compostable materials. Leggings and sports bras are engineered to performance standards, meaning these workout clothes actually work—and more than just work, the leggings even promise a little extra lift for the wearer’s derriere, a reference back to the A.S.S. acronym. Every item is available in sizes 00 to 20, too, meaning that men and women of many shapes will have access to Selman’s ultra-stylized gymwear. An illustration by Ricardo Fumanal of a svelte blonde bombshell, mid-bicep curl, in socks and stilettos printed on a tee sums up Selman’s vision best: These are garments for pumping iron and pairing with pumps.
