Emporio Armani’s Resort collection had a distinct urban vibe, a well-put-together look where the universally pervasive street style inspiration was (thankfully) nowhere to be seen. The focus was on a believable, practical wardrobe for the everyday, built around individual pieces that could be assembled based on personal interpretation. Launched in the ’80s as a lower-priced, affordable version of its glamorous big sister line, Emporio has stayed true to itself through the decades, making only discreet adjustments to the fashion mood of the times.
This attitude was in evidence for Resort. A play on contrasts was the common thread that ran throughout the collection: A pair of sporty shorts in techno taffeta were worn with an elegant elongated blazer in textured jacquard; a black leather bomber jacket was paired with a feminine striped and draped minidress; dressy Capri pants in silver duchesse were given a cool twist, topped with a dark denim jacket trimmed with a ribbon logo. Elsewhere, a series of floaty printed maxi dresses in silk chiffon or cotton voile indulged a sense of feminine lightness, playing against the signature simplicity of a fluid black pantsuit, its jacket revealing a discreetly sensual cut at the back.
