In the coming seasons, Re/Done’s jeans (and T-shirts, hoodies, tailored jackets, and miniskirts) are going to come with brand-new tags. Each will be labeled by the decade it was inspired by: the ’50s sweatshirt, the ’80s jean, the ’70s suede jacket, and so on. Pre-Fall opened with the brand’s most idiosyncratic, referential jeans yet: patchwork bell-bottoms with scraps of denim in various sizes and shades. Each pair will be one of a kind. The jeans the model in the showroom was wearing, for example, had a few patches made from back pockets. On a call from Los Angeles, cofounder Sean Barron joked that they’re not exactly easy to produce; there’s a surprising amount of handwork going on at Re/Done HQ.
Barron referred to them as the collection’s ’70s jeans, but the styling—with a fitted tank and barely-there sandals—kept the look from feeling dated or costumey. Elsewhere, Re/Done girls will find reworked versions of classics through the decades: an ’80s denim miniskirt, a ’90s sand-washed silk slip dress, and, naturally, lots of great rigid, straight-leg jeans. They’ll be most charmed by the ’60s-inspired Hawaiian shirt, though, which Barron’s team developed from a single scrap of vintage fabric, as well as the “tourist tees” featuring cheeky screen prints from various decades. Barron is bringing his next collection to New York in less than a month and teased one of Fall’s biggest developments: new and improved versions of the tailored, upcycled blazers from Resort. This time, they’re being made from scratch in Italy, and they’ll likely be the perfect thing to wear with your Re/Done jeans—patch-worked, bootcut, or otherwise.
