While contemplating Alice + Olivia’s Pre-Fall collection a few months ago, Stacey Bendet had visions of Twiggy dancing in her head. She wanted to design a collection that referenced the iconic model’s signature pixie style, one with movement and vibrant, nearly blinding color. With her latest wares, she succeeded in that pursuit, and she did so in a way that didn’t directly or obviously reference the notion of the Swinging ’60s. The most impactful pieces were Twiggy-esque silhouettes in trousers, tops, and dresses styled in bright, monochromatic shades.
The burnout snake-print wrap dresses with balloon sleeves were fine examples of Bendet’s seamless mixing of past and present. The rainbow and black-and-white plaids were nice touches, too, even if they seemed like they belonged to a separate story. A pleated rainbow dress was the real kicker here, a piece perfect for spinning around a dance floor circa now.
