Lorenzo Serafini is a romantic at heart, but he likes to throw a little rock ‘n’ roll vibe into the mix to keep things lively. And what’s more romantic than dreaming of a young, rebellious aristocrat, living in a decadent British manor, all ripped tapestries from William Morris on the walls, surrounded by foggy landscapes as far as the eye can see? She’s a little unconventional and on best terms with outrageously hip rockstars; yet she wouldn’t miss a grand ball for the world, being a good girl at heart. This English rose was the muse for Serafini’s Pre-Fall collection.
Serafini has a gentle touch; yet for all the delicacy of his design, he’s commercially savvy. Since his arrival three years ago, the label has enjoyed consistent growth, catering to customers who favor his fresh, easy approach with a hint of bohemia. He didn’t stray from it here, giving the collection charm without overdosing on frills or fripperies.
A gentle punky vibe added modernity to long tartan skirts worn with oversize knitted sweaters, or to double-breasted, military-inspired tailored blazers (replicas of the ones recently paraded by Kate Middleton) paired with high-waisted leggings. Echoes of the ’90s could be seen in the ample volumes of blanket coats in tartan wool or leopard-printed eco-fur. A dramatic black lace evening gown was worn with flat punky leather booties; an Empire-waisted bustier dress with puff sleeves in cerulean techno jacquard was adorned with a trailing black satin ribbon. It all looked effortlessly delightful.
