Reem Acra’s megawatt gowns are a staple on the red carpet. This season, she didn’t stray too far from her standard, Hollywood-ready creations. Standouts included a lace off-the-shoulder gown, as well as bedazzled, evening riffs on the caftan. The most refreshing part of the collection came when Acra experimented with new materials, like scuba mesh. An A-line dress was made from the fabric, creating a flattering, sculpted silhouette that hugged the body.
The dresses, Acra’s signature, were predictably pretty, but more interestingly, she has also begun to introduce a wider range of separates. Pieces like a black caftan top with bright floral embroidery and a blouse embellished with sequins could have worked at a standard 9–6 job or as cocktail-party fare depending on what they were paired with. This was a welcome shift, allowing for more mix-and-match variety for the customer, but without sacrificing Acra’s intricate handiwork.
