In a matter of weeks, Los Angeles transplant Andrea Lieberman will be back in her native New York to present A.L.C. Fall ’17. Despite her frequent-flying lifestyle, you can bet she doesn’t have a dedicated wardrobe for each coast; in fact, all that back and forth has only reinforced her belief in versatile, wear-anywhere, seasonless clothing. Her Pre-Fall collection was comprised of just that, including the new “basics” girls are wearing all year round: velvet slipdresses (hers in lustrous saffron and peachy pink), shirting, satin jumpsuits, and ribbed-knit underpinnings. With the recent out-of-whack weather patterns, when are those items not “in season”? Consider the weather in New York this week: Seven inches of snow on Saturday, and a predicted high of 62 degrees on Thursday.
Which is all to say that layering is important right now. Luckily, that’s a sweet spot for A.L.C. The button-down-under-dress isn’t a new trend, but Lieberman’s take looked crisp and elevated with a collarless shirt and scooped-out LBD. As a former stylist, she’s attuned to the subtlest of shifts, like swapping the oversize, deconstructed shirts trend for a cleaner look. And as far as A.L.C.’s signature knitwear, you can rarely go wrong; this season’s had sloped necklines to reveal a single shoulder and clavicle.
