Resort is about "what the client wants and needs," Reem Acra said at a showroom appointment. This season that meant color, from cocktail dresses to eveningwear. "Happy colors!" Acra declared.
To be sure, there was a rainbow of options, from the royal blue chiffon frock with swirling lace ruffles to the ruby red ball gown skirt. (Its crinkled taffeta was bustled in the front and attached to a sheer nude top embroidered with flowers mimicking lace.) The best looks were the brightest. A strapless A-line gown in electric pink silk shantung embroidered at the top with gold thread was striking; a marigold yellow skirt with a pintucked waist was charming and just a little bit sexy, thanks to its black lace ballerina top with a low-cut illusion neckline. A subdued black strapless number, with an inverted pleat of lace coming down the front, didn't smile like the others. But Acra knows her customer. Not everyone wants electric pink.
