This season, Antonio Marras' contemporary collection, I'M Isola Marras, was rooted in skate culture. While the ready-to-wear line was inspired by Venice, Italy (and more specifically, longtime resident Peggy Guggenheim), this one took its cues from Venice, California.
It's a younger look than Marras' namesake brand, with standouts including an off-the-shoulder yellow peasant dress, a ruffled baby-doll chiffon number in lipstick pink, and mannish wide-leg pants and shorts. "But it could all be the same woman," Marras' wife and muse, Patrizia, pointed out. These looks—from a drop-waist shirtdress to a floral-printed black poplin jacket—could easily mix in with Marras' wonderfully eccentric ready-to-wear offering. What felt particularly youth-driven, though, were the floral-appliquéd denim shorts and the Lichtenstein-inspired sweater, which was an homage to both the artist and the designer's Jack Russell terrier, named Pierivo. Sometimes the novelty was welcome; at other times, it wore thin. However, the loose white cotton A-line dress—with strips of blue chambray crossing through—was as sophisticated as a piece of cool-kid fashion could be.
