The only thing Reem Acra was thinking about while designing Resort was her customer: what she owns, what she doesn't own, what she wants, what she doesn't know she wants. "I really listen to her," said the designer at her New York City showroom. "What's most important are details that are sexy in a classical way."
To achieve that, Acra did plenty of color—a virtual rainbow, from a hot-pink strapless cocktail number to a royal blue ball gown with gold-bullion stitching—and offered her most popular silhouettes, including column dresses lined with a short slip. "Demure sex appeal," she called it. A nude dress with allover beading was meant to appeal to her red-carpet clients who want "simple." The one continuous thread was that there was something very regal about every piece. Acra's personal favorite, a grand ivory gown with a gold bodice that was beaded in a diamond pattern and dotted with stones in two shades of turquoise, was fit for a princess.
