It's easy to see why Ports 1961's top seller, a shift dress with a sort of built-in spiral skirt, is so appealing. The smart design would likely work for just about any body type. What's more, it's a look that is both flirty and modest, a combination that has got to count for a lot with this brand, which caters to a client base that ranges in age from 20 to 70. The best pieces in this somewhat uneven collection were suggestive without being too forward. A leather harness, worn as a belt over a dress, added an eye-catching, if superfluous detail; but turned so that it sat on the center of the model's chest underneath brass-buttoned jackets or silk blouses made it look like part of a sex contraption. Other designs were just plain awkward and unflattering. Jodhpurs were voluminous but saggy and deflated-looking. On a more positive note, printed calfskin made for an interesting and luxurious material on a zippered skirt and jacket with military details. The most ambitious designs were those for evening. Glossy black plastic detailing was used to excess on a duchesse satin T-shirt and skirt, but a feathery dress in a dégradé color scheme was soft and fun.
