Piazza Sempione is collaborating with the Mart museum in Trento, Italy, on a project set to debut during Milan fashion week. But the design team was already thinking painterly thoughts for Resort. A T-shirt dress in cotton sateen stretch was decorated with black and gold brushstrokes, and a full white circle skirt was dabbed with black.
Sempione's look is rooted in mid-century silhouettes, so there were stylishly mod minidresses and skinny trousers with boxy tops. Designer Franco Grignani's striped ribbons inspired a series of colorful looks, including a crepe de chine frock and a collarless coat that was paired with skinny navy pants. There were grid elements, too, shown on pieces ranging from a short-sleeved sweater in macramé to a perforated leather jacket.
While there were plenty of prints and patterns to keep the shopper's eye occupied, one of the most compelling numbers was a simple beige silk V-neck dress. It looked fresh, but not too hip to be a turnoff for the brand's more traditional customers.
