Given the earnestly crafty-cool appeal of their clothes, it makes a certain amount of sense that Ace & Jig's Cary Vaughan and Jenna Wilson should cite the Bauhaus (specifically its weavers, of course) for their Fall outing. The reference wasn't an overtly present one, but was traceable in some of the more pared-back new prints that the duo rendered their signature cotton gauze in, like a reversible plaid in red, black, and white with a kind of Vienna Secessionist flair to it, and a grungy stripe in olive, black, and gray that did a lot to diffuse busier pieces. Some of the season's stronger new shapes included quilted jackets (their take on a traditional army style) and a plunging V-neck maxi that could be worn with the V in front or back, depending on your preferred levels of demurity.
There's a lot to be said for a signature approach, but Ace & Jig's seasonal variations in print and silhouette can be hard to chart for the more casual shopper. While surely their cultish customer, the eager collector, does exist and is keen to snap up each new pattern or take on their cropped jackets and wide-leg trousers, she's surely outnumbered by women who buy a piece now and then. Vaughan and Wilson may want to make sure they're offering her styles distinctive enough to keep her coming back every season. The pair struck upon that best here with a sheeny, almost organza-esque fabric that they whipped into pieces including a drop-waist party frock—standout in every sense of the word.
