"We create everyday clothes for the Milanese woman who is strong and feminine. She doesn't necessarily want to be sparkling," explained Piazza Sempione's collection director, Fabio Falleti, at a stateside Pre-Fall preview. The new lineup had an après-ski sportiness with standout pieces including lightweight puffer jackets, embellished neoprene sweatshirts, cozy intarsia sweaters, and stretch napa leather leggings—all of which are made in Italy. There was a strong menswear influence seen in Prince of Wales checked pieces including sheath dresses and matching puffers, as well as an emphasis on crisp, classic shirting. While nothing felt particularly new or directional, there will always be a demand for quality basics like these. The label has worked to steadily regain its financial footing this year, so the design team was smart to play things safe with a range that will boost sales.
