Given the choice between diamonds or pearls, we would've pegged Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs as diamonds girls. But the designers proved us wrong with their new Pre-Fall lineup, which was heavily accented with pearls. The "body bijoux," as they described it, looked best tracing along the bust and bare shoulder blades of a long-sleeved column gown with a dramatic open back. According to Cushnie, the result was "a little more romantic but still sexy." One thing was for sure: These weren't your grandmother's pearls.
Citing pearls and the recurrence of egg shapes in Salvador Dalí's art, the duo replaced their typical sharp cutouts with round ones. Elsewhere, they added fluttery georgette insets to a stretchy viscose frock that came in a rich shade of burgundy, and showed a pretty scoop-neck number with an asymmetric, draped cascade in front. All things considered, the collection revealed a new, softer side of Cushnie et Ochs while still maintaining its provocative edge.
