Hollywood is rolling out the red carpet for Sunday's Golden Globe Awards, and celebrity stylists are busy pulling last-minute gown options. How fresh would it be to see a young starlet in Peter Dundas' satin minidress instead? The Emilio Pucci designer name-checked Mia Farrow, in her Frank Sinatra days, as a muse for his pre-fall collection, which had a twenties-via-the-sixties spin.
The sixties have been a big story for pre-fall so far. Dundas put his stamp on the decade via gravity-defying hems and a graphic palette of black and white. He's never been shy about showing a little (make that a lot of) leg, but the A-line shape of his shifts gave them an innocence that felt new for him. Still, for all of the insouciance on display, there was sophistication as well. The show-opening ivory cape with contrasting sheared fur shoulders has to be one of the chicest coats we've seen all season. And Dundas easily had pre-fall's strongest range of evening jackets. Elaborating on a bead-encrusted cardi jacket, he said, "It's a nice alternative for the Pucci girl. It does the job of a dress and the job of a tuxedo jacket." Come to think of it, worn with cropped white side-stripe pants, that little number would make a welcome sight at the Globes, too.
