Bespoken cleaned up its act a bit for Fall. Liam and Sam Fayed showed their new collection in the library of the NoMad Hotel, for which they've collaborated on a staff uniform. As Liam said at the presentation, "This is such a sophisticated space, we wanted to put our best foot forward." The first thing you saw when you walked in was eveningwear, a new category for Bespoken. A single-breasted wool tux in the unexpected shade of bordeaux deserved a second look.
Tailoring has been the foundation on which Bespoken is built—the Fayeds are part of the family that owns the estimable English bespoke tailoring concern Turnbull & Asser—and it continues to be the strongest part of the line. So this season more than some others, they opted to let it speak, favoring tailored pieces more than casual ones, even though casual and formal were mixed and matched. And it was in the tailored pieces where they snuck in little details to discover, inspired by a trip to Tokyo, "a city with a sense of discovery," said Liam. Key among them were the little cross sashiko stitches, borrowed from Japanese folk embroidery.
