Reem Acra still has nature on the brain. The designer, whose Fall show was bugged by insects, has transferred her fascination to flowers. And Acra, it turns out, has a pretty green thumb. Her Resort collection is a garden of vibrant evening dresses. Voluminous, tiered silk and organza gowns in yellow daffodil, red rose, and purple iris resemble flower petals unfolding. Acra adorned many of them with crystal-encrusted rose brooches, a layer of netting decked with tulle rosettes, or papier mâché-esque buds. Even the dark horse, a black tulle floor-length number that looked slightly morbid in comparison to its whimsical companions, was decorated with an oversize, hand-stitched blossom.
This was a collection fit for a princess of the Disney, not Middleton, genre. There was a raspberry red tulle ball gown with crystal-embellished capped sleeves, and a similar silhouette in ballerina pink. For her Hollywood royalty, she whipped up a few shorter versions.
