Reed Krakoff didn't walk away with the Accessory Designer of the Year prize at last night's CFDA Fashion Awards, but he did score another coup, dressing several partygoers in pieces from his latest collections. It's a sign that his one-and-a-half-year-old brand is starting to develop a solid identity. And there was more evidence of that at his Resort presentation this morning. Several of his key pieces from Fall reappeared, but in lighter fabrics and brighter, alluring colors. The show's most compelling look teamed one of his signature color-blocked football jersey T-shirts with a metallic blue python pleated skirt. On the softer side of this sporty-feminine balancing act were delicately layered slipdresses, both short and long.
Krakoff remains most confident with tailoring. His new suit for the season is a cropped jacket with bias-cut sleeves worn with full, menswear trousers, and there were several strong coats to choose from. The designer was keenest on a viridian green double-face cotton sateen trench that was as slim as a pair of shorter, cocoon-shaped toppers were round. Accessories, similarly, came either small and compact or oversize and comparatively unstructured, and as for the winner in this category, it's got to be the Atlantic bag in electric blue matte python.
