No one pulls off Rachel Roy's clothing better than she does herself. The designer looked fab in her own taffeta shirtdress at the CFDA Awards this week, but even cooler at her Resort lookbook shoot, where she combined a casual, shrunken jean jacket with an evening-appropriate, navy and white striped skirt. This collection was simplified and clean compared to what we're used to from Roy. There was a definite 1960's vibe, with mod silhouettes and vinyl dot embellishments (kind of like those candy buttons stuck on paper). A sandy knit coat that hung open in the front had citrus-colored stripes along its sides and the inseams of its sleeves. And color-blocking also came in the form of a navy top with a "Matisse blue" cowl neck paired with a bright pencil skirt. The lineup's standout piece was a boat-neck shift dress in a burnout velvet star pattern. This softer piece didn't quite mesh with the rest, but it's the one that will win over Roy's girly clients.
