For Resort, Ports 1961 is shooting sharp. Creative director Fiona Cibani applied lean tailoring to a cape jacket with strong, sculpted shoulders, as well as to a simple sheath with origami-like pleating and laser-cut slits. This strict silhouette factored in throughout. There were noteworthy suiting separates like a long, menswear-inspired vest with slim lapels, an item that could double as a minidress. On the softer side, a sky blue and lemon-colored shift had a pretty, mixed-lace overlay and asymmetrical neckline, and a few slinky knit looks appeared to be sprayed-painted in silver—one dress had a sexy, sheer panel zigzagging down one side. This collection didn't scream "Ports," but who cares about brand identity when you've got edgy but wearable pieces that would fit in with most women's wardrobes? The label gets an A for definite improvement.
