The rationale of the new Emporio Armani Resort collection was City Oasis, a typically concise attempt by Giorgio Armani to convey the essence of clothes that glossed urban chic with a hint of the exotic. It was subtle, but it was there: in a color palette of faded saffrons, pinks, and nudes; in a coat that could almost have been a kurta; in the samurailike sleeve of a shift in navy stretch wool; and in the silk-knotted neckpieces.
The overriding impression, though, was that signature Armani easiness, almost pajamalike in washed-silk track pants and slouchy tops and tanks, shown with flats. Even the dressier pieces—like the sun-ray-pleated knit skirt worn with a silken camisole, or the white linen shorts suit—caught the sporty spirit. "Dress and go" may have been the catchphrase for Armani's signature Resort collection, but it applied even more here. Dress and go-go-go.
