A blanket statement: At Maison Martin Margiela, it's all about a statement blanket. Kidding, partly—the pre-fall collection is about plenty of the usual house fixations, too—but for the most part, the Maison looked to the bed. Outerwear was fashioned from blankets, quilts, and in the case of one memorable parka, a duvet. That's the kind of conceptual high jinks that still fly at this house. The rest of the collection explored animal prints and menswear styles adapted for women. There were plenty of leg-elongating pants and menswear-style blazers, and the look reached its apex with a leather mechanic's jumpsuit. It was shown with a thigh-length raccoon vest, which took it far from the realm of the garage.
