Alberta Ferretti's Spring collection for Philosophy trotted us out to the Far East with chinoiserie looks in eye-popping colors, but her pre-fall lineup hits somewhat closer to her home—the Black Forest, to be exact. A hushed palette of neutrals and inky shades would aptly camouflage anyone wandering through the wilderness (as you can see in the lookbook pictures); and the one shot of color, a brick-red topper, came across as a fitting nod to Little Red Riding Hood.
There was a discernible schoolgirl vibe going on here. Pinstripe suiting separates would surely fit into almost any academic dress code, and a quilted satin look in champagne had a darling Peter Pan collar. Timeless duffle coats with horn toggles came in several incarnations—one with a Hudson Bay blanket pattern, another with a flattering A-line cut. And while it takes a certain girl to pull off head-to-toe Fair Isle (model-on-the-rise Juju Ivanyuk fits the bill here), the fox-fur beanie (why didn't someone think of this before?) is bundling up at its best.
