"I haven't done a bias-cut slip in years! But it felt time for something light and clean," said Amy Smilovic, echoing similar sentiments expressed by other designers this week. And the Tibi collection was indeed a breath of fresh air, with strikingly simple spaghetti-strap blouses and dresses in solid colors accessorized only with nude sandals (no jewelry). To continue the 1990's theme of her bias-cut dive into the archives, she offered buttonless silk jackets with matching shorts in sherbet hues.
The show wasn't a total throwback, though. Bustiers and draped silk peg-leg trousers, for example, are very now (having been seen in kindred incarnations on many a Spring runway). And there were plenty of Smilovic's signature prints, bright florals splashed here and there. Though it was the sleek finale slip gown, we must confess, that had us wanting to party like it was 1994.
