The scale of Dolce & Gabbana's success would suggest they've got a firm grip on the zeitgeist. Sure enough, in a world where the kids just wanna rock, they scored their latest show for D&G, the younger-brother collection, with a live performance by the Good, a Yeah Yeah Yeahs–like outfit from Australia whom Domenico found in London.
But even if there were a couple of tops on the catwalk that shouted "ROCK," something else altogether was actually going down here. Ever attuned to their customers' desires, Domenico and Stefano have clearly decided that their young rebels also wanna dress up. In the past, D&G has been very much about denim. This time round, the denim shirt came with a bow tie and a black suit that looked red carpet–ready. There were still jeans galore, but now they were likely to be black leather and paired with either a tuxedo jacket or a crystal-studded confection that cried out for lights, action, and a bank of cameras.
Though there was a grown-up seriousness about a corduroy-lined black leather car coat with sheepskin collar, you needn't worry about sense-of-humor failures at the house of D&G. An argyle vest featured heart shapes instead of the traditional diamonds, which—like much of this collection—made a winning hand.
